Live For You

"If you live for people's acceptance, you will die from their rejection." - Lecrae Moore

Nowadays it seems, everyone is using at least one social media platform consistently whether it be Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat, Google+, Tumblr, Tinder or Instagram. None of these are inherently wrong, by no means, but depending on how you use that app, it can either have a definite positive or negative influence. It can not only be affecting your life directly, but impacting others who are connected to you.

I'm not judging or knocking those who use social media in the least bit. I, personally, used to have a handful of social media apps downloaded on my phone which I used regularly. But after a 30-day Digital Detox earlier this year and a lot of time asking myself which apps actually added value to my life, I now only have two on my cell:
(1) Twitter - to keep up with my favorite bloggers and artists & (2) Instagram - to keep up with my family and close friends.

So many people use their chosen platform of networking as a soapbox; a place to rant, a megaphone to blame, and my personal favorite (NOT!)... a pedestal to proclaim their good deeds of the day, trophies they have won and achievements they want to humbly flaunt.

Humility used to be an attractive quality to most people. Now it seems like the majority favor bragging rights over all else. Feeds are constantly full of posts of people full of themselves.

If you NEED to have others' approval of your brand new pair of Nike shoes, your pimped out ride, the A+ you received on your Algebra test, a Blu-ray that you recently ordered off of Amazon, concert tickets you just spent hundreds of dollars on or (the most popular post I see) the plate of food you just ordered at your favorite restaurant... You might need to question your motives and ask yourself, "Can what I'm posting add value to another's life or is it just noise?" and "Am I using my app or is my app using me?".

In the beginning, social media sites and apps were created to bring people together: past friends, long distance family members, and old classmates. They were created to give you opportunities to meet new people outside of your local area, to build relationships, to strengthen relationships and to provide everyone with a convenience that was before, unavailable. It is a direct link to billions of people all across the globe and an easy connection for better and faster communication.

Sadly, I'm afraid, with our society being as self absorbed as it is now, it will only continue to get worse as time progresses.

The only fix is to take action.
The only hope we have is self reflection.

Don't seek the world's approval.
You don't need a crowd of followers.
Don't strive for Likes, Shares, and Retweets.
You don't need constant applause.
Don't post your life away.
Live life for you!

Captive

Picture this... You sit in a locked prison cell, isolated. It's just you; no friends or family reside. You've been here so long, it's basically all you now know. It's home. One day, you hear footsteps walking towards your cell. They pause in front of your prison door. You hear what sounds like a set of keys jingling in their hands. Then a loud click rings through your ears, one that a lock makes as it becomes unlatched. The door swings open. The light from outside starts to engulf every inch of darkness that surrounds you. You cover your face because of your eyes' sensitivity to the brightness. Though you cannot see, you hear a man's voice as he says, "You're free. Go." Several seconds pass in silence. You don't move. Nothing happens. So he asks, "What's wrong? Don't you want to leave? Here's your chance." Although you don't possess much in your cell, you look around at what you do have... A pillow your ...

No Gifts

This holiday season, I want nothing. "Shame on you! Where is your Holiday spirit?" Before judgements pass, let me explain myself a little bit so that you can see where I'm coming from. First of all, I'm not angry. Nobody hurt my feelings. No one has me upset. And despite what some of you out there might think, I'm not trying to be a Scrooge in any way. This isn't my attempt to wage a war on Christmas, even if the media tries to convince our entire country of this so-called attack every single December. Last year it was Starbucks and their holiday cups and the year before that I believe it was Target. Heck, this year media platforms may even try to attack McDonald's because of their ball pit. I mean come on, it is a direct mockery of tree ornaments, am I right? Not wanting gifts doesn't stem from having a lack of money or a case of just me being broke . Thankfully, I still have enough in the bank to purchase new items for each of my family ...

Why Wait?

"One day: 2 of the most dangerous words in the English language." - Joshua F. Millburn You pretend you are invincible. You live as if there's a tomorrow. You procrastinate. You postpone. You take almost every aspect of your life for granted on an daily basis. You lie to yourself using phrases like "someday", "one day" and "later on". Why? Nothing in this life is promised to us. Nothing is permanent. And all three of those terms above represent an illusion of the future that is non-existent. You think time is on your side? You think he's your best friend? Well, I am sorry to break it to you... Time has NO friends. Zero. Zilch. Your past is nothing but memories. Your future is only a dream. Both exist soley in your brain. The present, the here and now, this very moment is all you have. Once you face that reality and fully embrace it, you then come to the realization that every single breath is nothing short of extraordinary...
